Temazcal
A temazcal is a traditional steam bath ritual, where we gather to recover the body, mind and spirit.
You are invited to enter the temazcal, which represents the womb of Mother Earth, to metaphorically “die” and then be reborn.
Tlapaltekatl, temazcalero from the state of Hidalgo, guides the ceremony with songs and teachings based on the cosmovision of the ancient Toltecs.
We offer a weekly group ceremony as well as privately-scheduled ceremonies for 1 to 10 people.
While this practice is amazing on a weekly basis, we invite you to come as often or as little as you can or feel called to.
(For more information, check out my blog on the Temazcal)
This is a powerful way to connect with yourself, others, the energies of the cosmos, and your prayers.
A temazcal ceremony offers several physical benefits, including detoxification through sweating, improved blood circulation, and muscle relaxation. It can also help relieve stress and reduce pain.
The spiritual benefits of a temazcal include connecting deeper with mother earth and the energies which move through our lives. In the case of the temazcal, we work with the energies of the ancient mexican indigenous traditions- such as the energy of rain, the energy of shedding our skin, and the energy of facing our shadows.
Mentally, the temazcal helps us to face our fears, our insecurities and helps us to learn how to compose ourselves in times of chaos or percieved danger.
The temazcal ceremony has been used tranditionally to prepare for births, for battles, for other larger ceremonies to gather strength.
Currently we are offering a weekly scheduled temezcal ceremony in the La Punta neighborhood of Puerto Escondido on Thursday nights at 6:45pm. Please contact us below for more information. We also offer private ceremonies upon request.
